1. A THREAD BUILDING BLOCKS BASED PARALLEL GENETIC ALGORITHM
by Erkan Bostanci, Yilmaz Ar & Sevgi Yigit-Sert
Abstract

Genetic Algorithms are biologically-inspired computational methods commonly used for many different optimization problems in various domains. They are also known to require significant computational time to produce optimal solutions. This paper presents a genetic algorithm library that encompasses the main genetic operations such as selection, recombination and mutation. The library can be run in serial or parallel form using Intel's Thread Building Blocks which is a cross-platform multi-threading library. An evaluation with different benchmark functions has shown that the parallel implementation can achieve up to 3:1 speed-up over the serial implementation on a dual core computer with ordinary specifications.

2. RESEARCH OF FOREST CLASSIFICATION BASED ON REMOTE SENSING IMAGE
by Wang Erli, Liu Xiaofang & Wan Xin
Abstract

The forest plays an important role in regulating climate and improving ecological carrying capacity. In view of heterogeneous mixed young afforestation, the object-based classification on rules method is used to identify the types of planted forest, combined with spectrum, texture and shape characteristics information. ESP tool was applied to obtain the best segmentation scale and the rule set was built for the classification. The overall accuracy for classifying species was around 58%. The class-specific producer’s accuracies ranged between 38% and 82% and the user’s accuracies was between 33% and 96%. Compared with MLC which simply relied on the spectral information (overall accuracy 43%, kappa 0.33), the method achieved much more improvement in overall accuracy of 15 points and increased kappa coefficient to 0.52.

3. THE INFLUENCE OF LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES AND COMPENSATION ON CHIEFS OF VILLAGES’ PERFORMANCE AS PUBLIC ADMINISTRATOR IN THE DISTRICT OF GORONTALO
by Walidun Husain
Abstract

This research aims at finding out the extent of simultaneous influence of leadership competencies and compensation on performance of chief of village as village public administrator in the district of Gorontalo. This is a quantitative research with multiple regression analysis as its method of analysis. The population of this research is all 191 chief of villages in the district of Gorontalo with 60 chief of villages among them as research sample.

The results of the test from three proposed hypotheses are: (1) the t-count for leadership competencies is 0.979 with the p value of 0.032. As the p value is smaller than 5% it means that Ho is rejected. It means that leadership competencies variable has positive and significant influence in determining the performance of the chief of village. (2) The t-count for compensation variable is 6.318 with the p value of 0.000. This p value is also smaller than 5%. Hence, Ho is rejected. Thus, the compensation variable has positive and significant influence in determining the performance of the chief of village. The simultaneous significance test (F test) reveals that the F-count value is 64.038 with the p value of 0.000. This value is much smaller than the 5% value, which means that Ho is rejected and H1 is accepted. Therefore, in the significance level of 95% it can be concluded that simultaneously, all the independent variables have positive and significant influence toward the performance of chief of village. The determinant coefficient or the R-square is 0.696. This value means that 69.6% of the chief of village’s performance is influenced by independent variables within the model (leadership competencies and compensation), whereas, the rest 30.4% is influenced by other factors outside this research.

4. APPROXIMATE SOLUTION OF A DIRICHLET PROBLEM FOR GENERAL SECOND ORDER ELLIPTICAL LINEAR PDEs WITH CONSTANT COEFFICIENTS IN THE UNIT DISK OF R2
by Tchalla Ayekotan Messan Joseph, Djibibe Moussa Zakari & Tcharie Kokou
Abstract

In this paper, we give, in each fix point of unit disk of the space R2, a generalized analytic approximate solution of a Dirichlet problem for general second order elliptical partial differential equation with constant coefficients. This approximate solution is constructed by using Bubnov-Galerkin method. The present work is the prolongation of the work published in [1] and [2].
